Airman Leadership School
Airman Leadership School (ALS) is a leadership enhancement course to prepare Airmen and Guardians for positions of greater responsibility by strengthening their ability to lead, follow, and manage while also gaining a broader understanding of the military profession and their role within the Air and Space Forces. Instruction includes a series of lectures, open discussions, homework, exercises, writing projects, and briefing assignments.
Students in CMSgt Arthur Hicks Airman Leadership School Class 26-D are currently developing the skills required to serve as effective front-line supervisors across the Air and Space Force.
Class 26-D at a Glance:
FY26 ALS Impact (to date):
During this 24-duty day course, students strengthened their leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities while learning to supervise Airmen and Guardians in mission-focused environments.
Community Engagement Initiative
Class 26-D partnered with Patterson Road Elementary School to give back to a community that consistently supports Team Vandenberg. Over 5 hours, ALS students repainted the school’s blacktop, adding a world map of countries, refreshed half-court basketball lines, tetherball areas, and four-square courts for the 668 students from kindergarten through 6th grade. As the largest volunteer group the school has hosted, the class demonstrated teamwork, initiative, and a strong commitment to serving the local community.

What has been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned so far at ALS?
The Enlisted Performance Brief lesson was the most valuable for me. It taught me the basics of narrative writing and how to capture my troops’ performance on paper. Learning this skill helps me highlight their achievements and set them up for success in their careers.

What is one thing you learned about yourself during this course?
One thing ALS made me realize about myself is that I’m a strong advocate for my people. I’ve always cared for those I work with, but this course made me recognize that I’m willing to speak up, push for what’s right, and ensure my team is supported. It’s a balance between accountability and professionalism. Fighting for them doesn’t mean avoiding hard conversations; it means setting standards, being honest, and helping them grow.

How has ALS changed the way you view taking care of your people?
I have always valued the people I come across. ALS has given me a new lens through which to view every detail, no matter how small, every action, every emotion, and every spoken or unspoken word, because each means something to someone.
Class 26-D will graduate on 7 May 2026.
We look forward to highlighting future classes and continued leadership development across the installation.
